Annual Return of a Foreign Trust With a US Owner

In more detail

Form 3520-A is filed for a foreign trust that has a US owner under the grantor-trust rules, reporting the income of the trust and providing statements to the US owner and beneficiaries. It is the companion to Form 3520, which the individual files. The IRS may treat certain UK structures — some pensions, some savings arrangements, and family trusts — as foreign trusts, pulling them into this regime with steep penalties for late or missed filing.
